Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) has signed a letter of intent to transfer its remaining Mobile Phone activities to China Electronics Corporation (CEC) . CEC will take over the responsibility for Philips’ Mobile Phones business, which currently has an annual turnover of approximately EUR 400 million and approximately 240 employees, mainly in Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe.
NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. will begin shipping samples of two new amorphous silicon, thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal displays (LCD) at the end of December. The new LCDs are extremely suitable for installation in various portable devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and portable GPS terminals as they can reproduce colors clearly and vividly even in indoor/outdoor environments with high ambient light.
